As we clean up the cards from our trail cameras and look back at the photos from bucks last year, we often wonder how many made it through the season? And, more importantly, how big they will be next fall with a another year of antler growth. While the second point can’t be answered for several months, there is a way to determine which bucks survived for another year. As March approaches, it signals the peak season for those of us who enjoy searching for shed antlers. In a few weeks most of the bucks on the landscape will have dropped their antlers, and if we’re lucky enough to find a few, we’ll have an idea of what to expect for next season.
Thanks to Matthew Ross for submitting these photos of a buck that I’m sure, if it survived, is going to be an impressive trophy next season.
